My name is Andy Kong. I am a singer/songwriter born and raised in a tiny, eight- hundred-person town known as Hopland, California. Music began its gradual takeover of my life when I was six years old. I started with the piano, and later picked up the alto sax, followed by the guitar, then the bass and then the drums. Living in this small town, I was able to dedicate a lot of time to my music and soon got into writing and recording.
At fifteen I released my first self-produced album, “New Day Rising” and at eighteen I moved to the Bay Area to fulfill my academic duty as a full time student at UC Berkeley. At first I was worried the busy life of a city kid would detract from my music, but I quickly realized that this fresh urban environment was exactly what I needed as inspiration.
I am now twenty-one years old and I recently released my newest album “This Beautiful World”, a collection of eleven songs of moments lost, new beginnings and open roads. I spent just over one year making this album, and played (except for the viola on the last song), recorded, and engineered every instrument in my bedroom studio. I mixed and produced the entire album on my MacBook in Logic Studio, and had it mastered by Mike Wells (The Mother Hips, Jackie Greene, The May Fire) at Mike Wells Mastering Studios here in San Francisco. Since its release, “This Beautiful World” has received fantastic reviews by listeners, as well as music industry professionals, comparing my sound to that of a mixture between James Taylor, Jack Johnson and Amos Lee.
I am actively playing shows promoting my new release throughout all of Northern California.
