Carla Schwartz, author of "I Could Love", a 62-minute audio book of poetry.
Carla Schwartz has been writing poetry since she was a child. She wrote her first book of poetry at age eight. She has been writing and performing her poetry and lyrics for the last twenty years or so. Carla writes about social issues, love, life, death, music, ethical questions, food, film, and sex. She writes to make people laugh, and to put into words what may be obvious, but that which others may have trouble articulating. Carla has been inspired by Marlene Dietrich, and by swimming in fresh water. She has performed her poetry all over New England and in Australia. She has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton University.
Carla Schwartz has written three chapbooks: "To the Other End of the Cord," (2001), "First State: Ruminations on Conversations of a First Date," (2002), and "Desire," (2004). In addition, she has four unpublished books in the Brautigan Library, now housed in the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington, VT. Carla's poems have appeared in 05401, the Journal of Modern Writing, and elsewhere. You can find samples of her work, including some of those that appear on "I Could Love" at

Here is what some folks have said about Carla's work.
"Carla Schwartz, [is a] siren who compels men to massage her by just sitting at a bar, and [an] editor extraordinaire." Tom Daley.
"Honest, emotional and probing, these poems will stay with you." Andy Levesque.
"[Her] poetry runs the gamut of lively, spirited, playful and reflective. She is alternately
belligerently coquettish, wise-crackingly curious, erotically explosive, [and] irreverently meditative." Tom Daley.
"As always am excited by how much [Carla's work is] the real deal." Mark Balas.
"I am in awe of [Carla's] talent. [Her] poetry is sensual, sad, funny and moving - [she] read[s] beautifully. There is nothing that [she] can't do." Peter Townsend
Here is what Terence Hegarty has to say:
"I greatly enjoy [Carla's] new CD. [She] approach[es] everything with such pleasurable curiosity and infinite tolerance. . . [She] remind[s] us that the world is. A lot of us get caught with the ought, but for [Carla], the ought seems to enter only when dire circumstances call for it. I have immense respect and even awe for this openness (...) of [hers].
The 48 tracks go by easily, I always want to hear the next one. The sexy bits are so shocking (--did she really say that?), the lightness is never devoid of seriousness, the people are real and precious each in his or her own sad way, and their tales are always told so gently. There’s a rippling surface, but nothing’s superficial. It’s wonderful that you care so much."
Here is what Alan Rubin has to say:
"Carla is a poet of exceptional talent. Her poetry gives a good picture of the human condition. She displays an openness that is rarely seen. Her poems can be humorous or erotic or both. You will find them funny, insightful, and titillating. But most of all you will find them honest and true. You will not be disappointed."
"[Carla's] poems read so well and are emotionally, often sexually charged; but they never take the easy or expected way. " John Brisbin
