About This:
Good Dog Happy Man is a distinctive self-made rock formation from Utrecht, the Netherlands, categorized by the local press as "intensely groovy Belgian indierock" (VPRO 3voor12). When forced to classify the band will categorize themselves as "The Police that has listened to Curtis Mayfield too much". The band won the "Grote Prijs van Nederland 2007" (the Dutch equivalent of the Battle of the Bands) by accident, as they like to think. The jury praised their authenticity ("A genre on its own"), their joy in performing ("What a pleasant freakshow!") and their bespoke distinct arrangements ("Insanely great"). GDHM will tell you they only played as they always do. As an extra, bass player Crispijn Smals won the prize for "Best Musician 2007" . The year that followed winning the Prize was a hefty one: not only did they write and arrange new songs, they had a full touring schedule, playing several Dutch venues and festivals (Paradiso, Patronaat, Melkweg, Metropolis Festival, Festival de Beschaving, Popronde). At the same time they started recording their new album at Studio Arnold Mühren and the Ambassadors. When the recordings were finished, lead singer Sander Klijn became a father for the first time - while mixing the album with Jelle Paulusma. To top things off, the band wrote a soundtrack to the motion picture "Cloverfield" as part of the Amsterdam - based "Unheard Film Festival". They performed their soundtrack twice in a cinema while standing next to the white screen. One critic stated afterwards: “It’s quite an achievement to make a movie this bad into a good one by adding a great live performance”. This busy schedule didn't make the end result any less appealing or exciting, as the world is about to find out. The album is finished and later this year, the official debut album will be released by Dying Giraffe Recordings.
