Artist:
Self dubbed as ‘maximum minimalism’, Winnipeg, Manitoba’s High Watt Electrocutions’ sound combines the minimalism of cavemen beating on logs, with the robotic, near industrial grind of machinery, through the maximalism of electric instruments. The band draws heavily from obscure mid to late 60’s/ early 70’s psychedelia, as well as proto metal from the same era. They combine the hypnotic, tribal qualities of Stooges, Hawkwind and Spacemen 3 albums, with grandiose, cinematic Phil Spector-esque production, along with elements of fuzzed out proto-metal bands such as Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath.

Their new album Night Songs, was recorded largely around a six year span from the 2001-2007 range, and it was released after many recordings were done and meticulously layered and produced. Night Songs has elements of psychedelia, hard panned stereo imaging, droning soundscapes, as well as loud blues and symphonic flourishes--all to help create a multi-dimensional album that varies in it’s dynamic-- from soft to loud, brutalizing to soothing, often within the same song. Night Songs, which is a concept album based around dark, moody tracks that reflect various times through the night, was originally conceived as a collection of artistic musical ideas, and it evolved into an epic psych record. At roughly 68 minutes, it is undoubtedly challenging and demanding, but is rare in sound, production and the flow of the sequencing, presenting an album as a whole, rather than around possible singles.

They released "Desert Opuses" in 2008--a Middle Eastern influenced mechanical drone album--and the 39 minute instrumental album/ song, "The Bermuda Triangle", in 2010.

With a game plan that probably exceeds this Earth’s stratosphere, it’s only fitting that the band looks towards the sky and the unknown for both it’s sound and ambition.
