About This:
Katy Sullivan has returned with LIKE A CHILD, her second album of all original songs growing from broad-based musical influences - Fats Waller, George Gershwin, The Beatles, Bobby Mcferrin, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Benjamin Britten,R. Vaughn Williams and even J.S. Bach.
On the title track, "Like A Child", Katy plays her signature clean, classical guitar sound with an underlying rhythmic and harmonic complexity, singing the praises of a childlike view of the world.
Sullivan turns to her semi-hollow-body Epiphone and a full band on the driving "I Can't Love You". In the lush "Reverie", an oboe and bassoon duo supports a string section as thick and luxuriant as the woods Katy is singing about. "You're My Mango" is a forties style sashay with trombone and piano into a culinary dream-world. "I'm Sittin' Here Mopin'", a duet for saw and voice, is a mournful , toungue-in-cheek lament for yearning love and the telephone.
Sullivan knows how to craft a song, andher honey-rich, deeper-than-alto voice knows how to deliver them. Her voice has a presence that comes bursting through to knock your socks off!
After the success of her debut release, NINE LIVES, Katy Sullivan has returned with more of her eclectic songwriting and fabulous singing to create this new gem, LIKE A CHILD.
