About This:
The long wait is over for Torey Adler fans with the announcement of the release of "The Puppet King" the follow-up CD to Adler's highly successful debut record, "Earthed". The new record is the product of a close collaboration between Adler and producer Ryan Ghent and showcases Adler's original songs in a stark setting devoid of digital effects and modern production techniques.
"The Puppet King's" 11 new songs, show Adler's tremendous growth as a vocalist and songwriter since he first appeared on the musical landscape.
"I wanted to make a record that was strictly about the songs. I was inspired by old blues records, by field recordings from the 30s and 40s and by more recent record industry anomalies such as Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" and Bob Dylan's early records. I wanted to try to create a moving work of art that didn't depend on a heavy drumbeat and shimmering synths. In the end, I just sat down in a dark room and played the songs into a microphone on an acoustic guitar" commented Adler.
The songs on "The Puppet King" draw heavily from both country blues music and twentieth century poetry. Themes range from a murderer's despair in "Heaven" to the lighthearted ditty "Thing For You" and the reflective "Backroads"
Torey Adler burst onto the American music scene in 2003 with the release of his debut album "Earthed". He has played at festivals and coffeehouses across the country and has been heard on scores of college and alternative stations.
